The definition of “hosting” does not describe a single service, but a set of services which provide various functions to a domain address. Having a website and e-mails, as an example, are two separate services despite the fact that in the general case they come together, so most people see them as one single service. Actually, each domain name has a several DNS records called A and MX, which show the server that manages each specific service - the former is a numeric IP address, which defines where the site for the domain address is loaded from, while the latter is an alphanumeric string, which shows the server that deals with the e-mails for the domain. As an example, an A record can be 123.123.123.123 and an MX record would be mx1.domain.com. Every time you open a site or send an email, the global DNS servers are contacted to check the name servers that a domain has and the traffic/message is first directed to that company. When you have custom records on their end, the browser request or the email will then be forwarded to the correct server. The idea behind employing separate records is that the two services employ different web protocols and you can have your site hosted by one company and the e-mail messages by another.

Custom MX and A Records in Cloud Website Hosting

If you have a Linux cloud website hosting through our company, you're going to be able to see, set up and change any A or MX record for your domains. Provided that a given Internet domain has our Name Servers, you're going to be able to change specific records by using our Hepsia hosting CP and have your website or emails directed to any other service provider if you would like to use only one of our services. Our sophisticated tool will allow you to have a domain hosted here and a subdomain below it to be hosted someplace else by modifying only its A record - this will not affect the main domain address in any way. If you decide to use the e-mail services of another provider and they want you to set up more than 2 MX records, you can easily do this with simply a few mouse clicks in the DNS Records section of your Control Panel. You can also set different latency for every MX record i.e. which one is going to have priority.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

Accessing and editing the A or MX records for any of your domain names or subdomains is very easy if you buy a semi-dedicated server plan from our company. The accounts are managed by using our in-house built Hepsia Control Panel, which features a section devoted to the DNS records of your domain addresses. The latter will be listed alphabetically and you could click on any one of them to see both the A and the MX records. Changing any record is as easy as entering the new one in a text box and saving the change, so in case you have never dealt with such matters before, you will not experience any troubles if you wish to point your site or e-mails to another service provider while keeping the second service with our company. When required, you can also set up additional MX records and set a specific priority depending on the recommendations of the new provider.
